Moms Charged with Stealing Millions in Ponzi Scheme
Three PTA mothers at Diamond Bar's Armstrong Elementary have been arrested and charged with stealing millions from others in a fraudulent investment scheme.
The suspects involved are Maricela Barajas, 41; Juliana Menefee, 50; and Eva Perez, 51. They have each been charged with 22 criminal counts of grand theft of personal property and securities fraud.
According to detectives who have been investigating the women's scheme for the past six months, they would earn trust and befriend investors from all over SoCal during social functions and school events.
The women claimed to have the exclusive right to sell AltaDena Dairy products to some retailers and at Disneyland and Disney hotels.
Investors were required to pay in cash to support the growth of the business, and were offered return rates of up to 100 percent.
The women held back some 4 million dollars, after collecting about $14 million and returning $10 million to investors to keep the funds rolling in.
According to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, the women could get up to 13 years jailtime if convicted on all counts.
