'Monster Hunter Rise': Here's What's New In 'Sunbreak' Expansion
KEY POINTS
- "Sunbreak" will introduce six new monsters to "Monster Hunter Rise"
- Master Rank will return in the new expansion
- More silkbind moves, endemic creatures and QoL changes will be added to the game as well
The first expansion for “Monster Hunter Rise” promises to bring some much-needed features that many franchise fans have been looking for since the game was released last year.
Capcom revealed more details about “Sunbreak” in a recent stream, where they showed off more of the new content fans can expect later this year. Here are the biggest additions that fans should be excited about.
New Monsters
There are three completely new monsters that are coming with “Sunbreak,” along with one new subspecies and two returning fan-favorites.
Malzeno is the flagship monster for this expansion. This Elder Dragon has a regal and almost vampire-like vibe as it can drain energy to boost its own powers. Following this monster are the ape-like Garangolm and the frost-based Lunagaron.
The lightning-infused Astalos returns together with the Shogun Ceanataur after a relatively long absence from the “Monster Hunter” series. They are joined by the Blood Orange variant of the Bishaten that uses fire to attack hunters.
More Silkbind Moves
Each of the 14 weapon types is getting new Silkbind attacks in “Sunbreak.” Capcom hasn’t gone into detail regarding these new moves, but the trailer did show some of them in action, including a fancy corkscrew attack with the Dual Blades.
Also, players will no longer have to spend Wirebug charges to initiate a wall run. Performing dashes and mid-air evades and falling into a wall will automatically cause hunters to run along it.
New Endemic Life
There are two new usable types of insects in “Sunbreak”: the Marionette Spider and the Morphed Wirebugs.
Marionette Spiders can be used to send monsters hurtling into the desired direction, while the Morphed Wirebugs grant additional effects for when players mount monsters.
Master Rank
The much-awaited return of Master Rank is happening in the new expansion. Though Capcom didn’t explain the finer details regarding this new difficulty level, it’s expected to work much like how Master Rank or G-Rank did in older “Monster Hunter” games.
If this is true, then it’s possible that there will be new weapons and armor sets based on each of the existing monsters in the game.
