The Los Angeles Dodgers were already the National League favorites before trading for Mookie Betts and David Price. After acquiring one of MLB’s best players, L.A. is given an even better chance to win a title.

Los Angeles has +400 betting odds to win the 2020 World Series at BetOnline. The Dodgers had +600 odds prior to the blockbuster deal.

Only the New York Yankees (+350) have better championship odds than Los Angeles. The Houston Astros (+800) are third in MLB. The Atlanta Braves (+1400) are a distant second in the NL.

The Boston Red Sox were considered fringe contenders with +2200 World Series odds when Betts was on the team. Those odds have plummeted to +3300 in the aftermath of the move, making Boston an unlikely contender.

Nearly half of the teams in baseball—14 to be exact—have better World Series odds than the Red Sox. Five American League teams have no worse than +2500 odds. The Tampa Bay Rays (+2000) are considered to be New York’s biggest competition in the AL East.

Boston received 23-year-old outfielder Alex Verdugo and 21-year-old pitcher Brusdar Graterol from the Minnesota Twins in what was a three-team trade. Verdugo hit .294/.342/.475 with 12 home runs in 106 games last season. Graterol has a 4.66 ERA in 9.2 career innings.

Betts is considered by many to be MLB’s second-best player, ranking behind only Mike Trout. The newest Dodger is second in baseball with a 33.8 WAR over the last four seasons combined. He finished second in the 2016 AL MVP race and won the 2018 AL MVP award.

Injuries limited Price to 22 starts and a 4.28 ERA in the 2019 season. He’s totaled 358 innings in the last three years. Price was a candidate to win the 2018 World Series MVP award, going 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 13.2 innings.

The Red Sox defeated the Dodgers in five games in the 2018 World Series. Los Angeles lost consecutive World Series prior to losing in five games in the 2019 NLDS against the eventual champion Washington Nationals.
