More Actors Reportedly Leaving ’Days Of Our Lives’ In 2020
Fans of ”Days of Our Lives” were already shocked to learn that the show was saying goodbye to several big characters in 2020, and now, it appears other actors have said at least a temporary farewell to the long-running NBC soap.
Following reports in February that Casey Moss (JJ Devereaux), Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez), Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) were all going to be leaving the show, new reports have indicated that a few other female characters will soon be off the canvas—and one already has exited the show.
According to reports, Stacy Haiduk, who portrays Kristen DiMera on the show, has made her final appearance as of May 12, when, following Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) returning Baby Rachel to her, Kristen and the baby took off for parts unknown, leaving Brady (Eric Martsolf) behind, Kristen felt that while she did get her baby back, she couldn’t return to Salem because she was wanted for attempted murder after stabbing Victor (John Aniston), and there were no options for the couple that allowed them to be together as a family in Salem. They said their goodbyes and Brady headed back home.
Haiduk, however, has spoken up about her leaving the show, sharing on Instagram on May 9 that while she was leaving, there was always a chance she would be back since her character has made several triumphant returns in the past.
“So yesterday you all read that I was leaving Day’s!!!” she captioned a photo. “But Let’s not write Kristen Dimera off quite yet! Is anyone really gone in Salem. After all I am the Phoenix!”
In addition, it has been reported that Kate Mansi, who has been doing on/off returns as Abigail DiMera over the years, is once again making an exit with a final airdate sometime in May. Currently, her character is once again suffering from hallucinations and is presumed to have been drugged. It’s unclear how her storyline will come to an end.
Her departure would mean that both she and her on-screen brother, JJ, were off-canvas. It is not clear if her husband, Chad (Billy Flynn), is also leaving.
As for the previously announced departures, it is believed that Gering finished taping in February and is expected to exit in August or September. Massey and Smith have not revealed exact last airdates but shared following news they had been fired that they had only been guaranteed six episodes after the entire cast was released from their contracts following a hiatus in Fall 2019.
Their departures all follow ones by Judi Evans as the character Adrienne Kiriakis after her character was killed during the show’s time jump (she could return as Adrienne’s doppelganger Bonnie Lockhart however), Thia Megia’s Haley Chen, who was also killed during the time jump, and Chrishell Stause’s Jordan Ridgeway.
“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
