“The Morning Show” is coming back for Season 3, and lead star Reese Witherspoon couldn’t be happier.
Variety revealed Monday that the drama series was officially given the go signal by Apple to move forward with another season. According to the outlet, aside from the renewal, the series also got a new showrunner in the person of Charlotte Stoudt.
“I’m excited to be joining forces with Apple TV Plus and ‘The Morning Show.’ The cast, led by the phenomenal Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, are truly to die for,” Stoudt was quoted as saying.
She then acknowledged Kerry Ehrin, the showrunner on the first two seasons, and the other people who worked on the show.
“Kerry, Mimi and Michael, and the teams at Media Res, Hello Sunshine and Echo Films, have created an irresistible world that is equally delicious and provocative,” Stoudt said.
Moments after the announcement, Witherspoon took to Twitter to share the link to Variety’s report, and she also grabbed the opportunity to thank the avid viewers of the series.
“We’ve got news… @TheMorningShow is back for SEASON 3!! Thank you to all who tune in to make the series possible,” the 45-year-old actress wrote.
Although Stoudt is taking over as showrunner starting next season, Ehrin would still be part of the show as a consultant while she’s working on new content for the digital streaming platform.
Ehrin was not the first showrunner of “The Morning Show,” which was initially ordered by the streamer in 2017. She replaced original showrunner Jay Carson when the first season underwent an overhaul to include the #MeToo movement, said The Hollywood Reporter.
The flagship drama series for the streamer follows the lives of Aniston and Witherspoon’s characters Alex and Bradley as they engage in the competitive world of breakfast news programming.
The first season premiered in November 2019. It came back with a timely 10-episode second season, featuring the presidential election and coronavirus outbreak, in September 2021.
There’s no word yet on when exactly the show is coming back to Apple’s streamer with its third installment.
