In spite of the economic recession, an Aspen home owner became the first to sell the most expensive home in the U.S. for the year.

Following the positives news that home prices in the U.S. were up slightly in May, a nine bedroom and 21,400 square feet home made a new real estate record on Friday after being sold for $43 million.

The home, built in 2006, is made of wood, glass and stone and overlooks downtown Aspen. It comes with a heated outdoor pool, 13 bathrooms, four-car garage and a guesthouse, according to the Aspen Times.

“It was a straight, cash deal,” said Newton Bartley, a real estate agent with Joshua & Co. who represented the buyer. Joshua Saslove, president and founder of the firm, represented the seller.

Although not the most expensive home to be ever sold in the U.S., brokers say it is the most expensive home sold so far this year.

An unidentified American family purchased the property through a limited-liability corporation.

Home prices in the United States rose 1.6 percent in May, though they still are down 10.5 percent compared with last year, according to a study by Integrated Asset Services LLC.

The U.S. median home price has fallen 21.3 percent — more than $56,000 — since its peak at $262,600 in March 2007, according to data from the National Association of Realtor.

Donald Trump sold the most expensive home - the Pam Beach Estate - in the U.S. for a cool $100 million in 2008. Trump bought the property for $41.25 million in 2004 at an auction at U.S. Bankruptcy Court in West Palm Beach. He claims to have spent $25 million on renovations before putting it on the market with the asking price at $125 million, which he later reduced to $100 million.
