Pregnancy is a reason for joy for every parent. However, it can sometimes be strange and mind-boggling. Here's a list of 10 record-breaking pregnancies from across the world.

Most babies born in a single pregnancy

This record belongs to a Malian woman, named Halima Cissé, who delivered nine babies at a single birth. The nonuplets were born on May 6, 2021, after a 30-week gestation period. Originally thought to carry seven babies, Cissé gave birth to nine babies by cesarean section.

Most premature baby

The world record for the most premature baby belongs to Curtis Means. The baby was born after just 21 weeks into the pregnancy and weighed only 14.8 oz, according to Guinness World Records. Born in July 2020 to Michelle Butler, the boy had less than 1% chance of survival, according to the doctors. Notwithstanding that, Curtis completed two years this July. However, he did have a rough start. Due to preterm delivery, Curtis was born with hypertension, and he had to be fed through a tube every three hours.

Most babies born to one woman

A woman from the 18th Century is believed to have given birth to 69 babies in her lifetime, according to Guinness World Records. The woman was the first wife of a peasant from Shuya, Russia, named Feodor Vassilyev. She did not actually go into labor 69 times. She gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets. Unsurprisingly, the woman is also the record-holder for the most sets of twins and quadruplets born to one mother.

Shortest baby

The world's shortest baby was only 9.44 inches long at birth, Guinness World Records reported. Named Nisa Juarez, the baby weighed just 11.3 ounces and was born 108 days prematurely on July 20, 2002.

Longest baby

The record for the longest newborn is held by a baby named Babe. Born in January 1987 to Anna Bates, Babe measured a shocking 28 inches and weighed around 22 pounds. Unfortunately, the boy survived only for 11 hours. Babe's height is not surprising, given that both the parents were tall – the mother measured 7 feet 11 inches, while the dad was 7 feet 9 inches tall.

Most premature set of twins

This title belongs to a pair of Iowa twins – Keeley and Kambry Ewoldt. Born to Jade Ewoldt at 22 weeks in 2018, the twins were 125 days premature. The twins weighed just 17.3 oz and 13.4 oz respectively at birth.

First "test-tube" baby

This is probably the most popular baby on record. Nicknamed the first "test-tube baby," Louise Brown, was named so because she was the first baby born through in vitro fertilization. Louise was born on July 25, 1978, to her mother Lesley after being externally conceived on Nov. 10, 1977.

Oldest mother to successfully deliver a baby

In 2006, Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara, at 66 years and 358 days, became the oldest mother to successfully carry a pregnancy to full term. The woman received IVF treatment in California. She lied about her actual age and told doctors she was 11 years younger.

Oldest human embryo resulting in a successful birth

British couple Rachel and Philip Ridgeway became parents after their twins were born using 30-year-old embryos, which were preserved in liquid nitrogen. The twins, named Lydia and Timothy, were born on Oct. 31, 2022. The embryos, donated by an unknown couple, were frozen on April 22, 1992.

Most sets of triplets born to a woman

Maddalena Granata, from Italy, holds this record. She gave birth to 15 sets of triplets over her lifetime, according to Guinness World Records. Besides this, not much is known about her.
