A 62-year-old woman in Singapore has been accused of letting her lover sexually abuse her daughter for six years to "cure" her bad luck and irregular menstruation.
The mother appeared in court Tuesday for 13 counts including sexual assault of a victim under 14, sexual exploitation and exposing obscene objects to a young person.
The victim, now 20 years old, accused a 70-year-old man of sexually assaulting her during "ritual showers" and massages while her mother held down her legs.
According to the prosecutor, the girl was assaulted by the accused man between ages 10 to 16. The male suspect had a clinic at the temple and coached the girl’s elder brother’s dance troupe. At the temple, the mother regularly met the man along with her daughter. In these visits, the man gave massages to the girl and the mother until his clinic closed down in 2011. The man then continued his massage sessions at the woman’s house, the Channel News Asia reported.
During these massages, the mother and the man allegedly conspired to sexually assault the girl. Initially, the man started molesting the girl and when she talked about feeling distressed, the mother told her to obey.
At one point, the man started stripping the girl and himself down while he assaulted her under the guise of treating her "irregular periods," The Strait Times reported.
The man asked the girl to perform sexual acts on him, which the mother encouraged.
Before and after the sessions, the couple forced the girl to watch pornography with them. When the girl asked why she had to watch the videos, the mother said she needed to learn how to perform the sexual acts so that she could do the same with the man.
On a separate occasion, the couple allegedly had sex in front of the girl.
In 2017, the man suggested taking "ritual showers" to get rid of "bad luck." During these rituals, the man lit candles and placed bowls of water and flower around the girl. He then assaulted the girl while taking showers with her.
Around this time, the girl told her boyfriend about the assaults and filed a complaint with the police.
Two siblings of the girl testified that the man came to their house and gave massages to the girl in a bedroom.
