Mother Attacks Daughter With Machete Over Money, Nearly Severs Teen's Hand

An Alabama mother was arrested and charged Monday after she allegedly attacked her teenage daughter with a machete after confrontation over money. According to reports, Corina D'Andrea, 49, nearly severed the young girl's hand during the attack.

Police arrived at 4400 block of Woodland Hills Road and found the 18-year-old suffering from "severe wounds" to her arms, hands and skull, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The victim told deputies her mother assaulted her with a machete. The teen was rushed to a hospital and doctors said that she was critical but in stable condition.

The sheriff's office said the incident allegedly began after the two argued over money that the daughter had taken from the mother.

D'Andrea was charged with attempted murder and first-degree domestic violence in connection with the incident. She was booked into the county jail on a $30,000 bond.

Other details about the incident remain unclear.

In another incident, a mother was arrested by Memphis police after she attacked her daughter last week. Police were called to the 6500 block of Red Birch Drive after reports of an argument. The victim said that her mother, identified as Bennika Abram, drunkenly yelled at her as she wanted to know when she would return to college. During the argument, the mother threw a bottle at her daughter and then ripped a braid out of her hair.

Police arrested Abram and charged her with domestic assault and vandalism.

In another severe case of a mother-daughter confrontation, a Washington mom was accused of fatally shooting her 14-year-old child as the teen attempted to call 911 during a horrific domestic incident. The argument also involved the teen’s father and brother. The incident took place last month in the Seattle suburb of Renton.

Police received a frantic call from the teen saying that her mother was wielding a gun and a Taser and had zip-tied her 12-year-old brother. She allegedly stuffed a sock in his mouth and taped it shut.
