A 38-year-old woman is accused of tying a blanket around her 1-year-old son's neck at the family's Ohio home. The child survived after the woman's husband walked in and saw his son turning red as the mother pulled the blanket tighter around his neck.

The incident occurred in Sycamore Township early on Monday morning. The mother, identified, as Amy Dick, allegedly knotted the blanket around her son's neck in the family's living room and did nothing as the child struggled to breathe, according to 13abc Action News.

When the boy's father walked into the room, he heard his son gurgling and found him turning red. The mother pulled the blanket tighter as the boy was foaming at the mouth.

Dick's husband quickly intervened and saved the boy's life. The mother punched the father after he managed to get the child away from her.

When the father called out to his other children for help, the kids rushed in and took the victim out of the room, and took the blanket off his neck, according to WLWT.

Deputies from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office arrived at the family's house and spoke with Dick, who confessed to tying the blanket around her baby's neck.

The mother claimed she did not know why she tried choking her son, according to the arrest report.

The toddler had sustained minor injuries around his neck and did not lose consciousness at any point as the incident unfolded, officials said.

The charges against the mother include endangering children, assault and domestic violence. She reportedly has a history of mental illness and was reportedly receiving treatment for the same.

A similar incident was reported last year after a father choked his 2-month-old daughter by sticking a baby wipe in her mouth. The baby was rushed to the hospital and eventually pronounced dead. The father, Christopher Ledoux, 38, was accused of causing the child's death, which was ruled a homicide. An autopsy indicated that the child choked on the baby wipe that Ledoux allegedly stuck inside the infant's mouth.
