A Pennsylvania mother was arrested and charged on Nov. 16 with murdering her 32-year-old quadriplegic daughter, Philadelphia police said.

Yelena Nezhikhovskaya, 63, is facing charges of third-degree murder, false reporting, and drug delivery resulting in death, WPVI-TV reported.

Back in Dec. 17, 2018, the police had arrived at Nezhikhovskaya's residence on the 9600 block of Bustleton Avenue in Philadelphia where the daughter, Yulia, was declared dead. The body was sent to the medical examiner's office for investigation.

The official cause of death was said to be drug intoxication in the manner of a homicide, WPVI-TV reported. Nezhikhovskaya had reportedly given the daughter a lethal dose of medication and alcohol, sources told Action News.

Neighbors recalled Yulia frequently making loud noises due to her mental disability.

"I could hear noise but the woman was disabled and mentally disabled as well, so she would sometimes yell when she wasn't happy," Lauren Andrews, a neighbor said. "I've been living here for three years, I've been hearing that the whole time I live here."

Neighbors acknowledged that as difficult as it may be to care for a quadriplegic, it was also shocking to hear about someone killing her own child.

Nezhikhovskaya is set to appear in court on Dec. 4 for a preliminary hearing.
