Mother Claims Her 10-Year-Old Has Never Gone To School, Viral Video Sparks Outrage [Watch]

A mother who has posted a video showing her unconventional parenting style has sparked a heated debate online after she revealed that her 10-year-old has not gone to school.

In a controversial video, the Tiktoker known by the handle @treeeflower claimed that her 10-year-old daughter has never been sent to school and has no set bedtime. The video that went viral has fetched more than 1.5 million views and 6800 comments.

The video begins by showing the Tiktoker while the overlay reads: "Unconventional [and controversial] ways I’m raising my 10-year-old." The video then shows her daughter petting a baby goat and plucking produce from the garden while the overlay reads: "No bedtimes or wake up times (sometimes that means going to bed at 5 a.m. and waking up at 4 p.m."

The mother then claims, her daughter who has never been to a school, chooses what she wants to learn and when she wants to learn. She also says that her daughter continues to sleep with her and has not been allowed to have sleepovers, not even with family members. The mother ends the video by claiming that the girl "is encouraged to be opinionated and to speak her mind," The Washington Newsday reported.

After watching the video, many people came forward criticizing the Tiktoker and even accused her of abusing the child by not educating her. "You are basically creating a child that will be dependent on you for a lifetime because she lacks a basic education," a viewer commented.

Some viewers shared their sympathies with the little girl and said they had similar experiences with their parents. " My parents did this and I don't talk to them anymore. Educate your kids," a viewer who could relate to the child's experience said. "How can she be opinionated when she is exposed to nothing? What you really mean is "parrots my own opinion loudly"," another viewer accused.

After facing heavy criticism from her viewers, the Tiktoker mom posted several follow-up videos trying to justify her views. In one video, she has even compared going to school with going to prison. She claims that both places abridge people's freedom by following authoritarian structure and insisting on having a certain dress code and set timings.

In two subsequent videos, she listed out the benefits of homeschooling and detailed how to go about registering for it. However, the viewers further criticized her saying that what she was following was not homeschooling as it involves definite structure.
