The mother of an Orlando, Florida, toddler who was beaten to death said her child's ghost visited her and proclaimed her boyfriend was innocent in the case. Victoria Toth and her boyfriend Johnathan Pursglove were both charged in the fatal “torture” of her 2-year-old son.

According to a local report, which cited recordings of jailhouse phone calls, Toth and Pursglove planned to marry, even though they both face a manslaughter charge in connection with the child's July 2018 death.

"We can share anything with each other," Pursglove told Toth of his wedding vows in one recording. "That's just a little hint at what my vows have."

Pursglove has remained jailed in lieu of bail, and Toth was released from jail after paying bail. In of the recordings, Toth said she knew Pursglove would be free soon as her child's spirit had been in contact with her via a psychic.

"Jayce even told me that it's not true," Toth said. "Jayce is telling me that he's [angry] at my parents, and I can't do anything to help – to make them open their eyes."

Toth was arrested in September 2018 after the body of her son was found in a home on Bethune Drive. According to the arrest report, the toddler was malnourished and bruised. A medical examiner said the boy's cause of death was peritonitis, which is an inflammation of the lining of the abdomen. The autopsy report also listed "blunt force trauma to the abdomen."

Officials investigating the case said at the time that Toth didn't take her son to a hospital because she knew it would result in the arrest of her boyfriend, according to ABC-affiliated WFTV.

After Pursglove's arrest, officials said he admitted to regularly punching holes in walls out of anger, but he did not admit to hitting the child. Pursglove has a criminal history, including an arrest for use of a firearm during a 2012 drug deal and accusations of domestic violence.

Toth and Pursglove are charged as co-defendants. Their trial is scheduled for July.
