Moto G4, G4 Plus Android 7.0 Nougat Rolling Out To US Consumers This Month?
Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus owners, rejoice. Motorola is in the final step of preparing the Android 7.0 Nougat for nationwide release in the U.S. Though no specific release date has been given, it’s very likely the handsets will get the Nougat treatment within this month.
Just this Thursday, Republic Wireless revealed the Maintenance Release (MR) for the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus Android 7.0 Nougat update has been released. Hence, a soak test is currently being conducted. Basically, this test is to check if there would be issues when the Nougat update is rolled out to handsets in the country.
Based on the information provided alongside the release of the MR, it has a build number of NPJ25.93-13. It also includes the December 2016 Android security patch despite the fact we are already three months into 2017. Since this is a soak test, only a select few will have access to the software. To check if your handset has been chosen for this test, you need to go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Update Motorola Software. If the MR is available on your device, you’ll be getting a pop-up notification informing you to download the software for installation.
The arrival of Android 7.0 Nougat to the U.S. models of the Moto G4 and G4 Plus is rather late. Android Police reports that handsets for the Indian market have already been updated to Nougat almost three months ago. And this seems understandable because Motorola is placing a higher priority on its phones in India than in the U.S.
The Moto G4 and G4 Plus were launched in the U.S. last summer. Both are budget-friendly Android smartphones that are currently being sold unlocked. And while it is good the two devices are getting the Nougat treatment soon, Phone Arena says they would most likely be overshadowed by their successors — the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus — in the coming weeks. The upgrades, which Motorola showcased at MWC 2017, will not only come with improved specs and features, they are also running Android Nougat out of the box.
