Motorola Droid 4 Released: All About the Keypad-Enabled Smartphone
Droid 4, which was released Friday (Feb. 10), is Motorola's first 4G LTE smartphone that comes with the QWERTY keyboard.
Verizon, which has launched this new smartphone for $199 with a two-year contract, has touted Droid 4 as the thinnest and most powerful 4G QWERTY smartphone measuring at less than half an inch thin.
Let's take a look at all the specifications of the Motorola Droid 4 (Motorola DROID 4 XT894).
Size: Droid 4 comes with a dimension of 69.9 x 126.7 x 12.9 mm (HxWxD) mm and weighs 178.9 grams. The phone features a QWERTY keypad and touch-sensitive controls technology. The keyboard also comes with LED edge-lit keys, which will prove useful in sending messages in the night.
Display: The Motorola smartphone sports a 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 960 x 540 pixels and 275 ppi pixel density. According to Motorola, the display is designed to resist scrapes and scratches and a force field of water-repellent nanoparticles will shield the phone from water.
Operating System: The phone runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread but can be upgraded to Google's latest operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).
Processor and Memory: Droid 4 features a Dual-Core 1.2 GHz with a Dual-Channel 1 GB RAM processor, TI OMAP 4430 chipset and PowerVR SGX540 GPU. The new Motorola smartphone comes with 16 GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.
Camera: Droid 4 sports an 8 megapixel and 3264x2448 pixels unit with autofocus, LED flash and rear-facing camera with 1080p video capture capability. A 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera with 720p video recording capability has also been included in the new Motorola phone. The camera has features like geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilization, cropping, rotating, brightness, color, enhance, flip, resizing, and effects.
3G/4G: Along with 3G, Droid 4 supports 4G LTE (700 MHz Class B13) connectivity for Verizon.
WLAN/Bluetooth/USB: The Motorola smartphone has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 4 with LE+EDR, DLNA version 1.5 and microUSB 2.0 version.
Battery: Droid 4 has a standard Li-Ion 1785 mAh Li Ion battery that can give up to 750 minutes of continuous talk-time and up to 205 hours of standby time.
Other Features: The phone has features like HTML5, Adobe Flash, an Accelerometer, proximity and a compass, MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ player, MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV player, SNS integration, HDMI port, voice navigation, voice memo/dial, predictive text input, document viewer and a photo viewer/editor.
It comes with FOTA, PC Sync, Corporate Sync, Google Sync features and Verizon Visual Voice Mail.
The Android phone integrates Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Quick Search Box, Google eBooks, Google Search by Voice. GPS feature includes aGPS (assisted), eCompass, sGPS (simultaneous) and GLONASS.
The phone includes a few smart applications such as Quickoffice, GoToMeeting, MOTOPRINT for business, Netflix, Blockbuster, Amazon Kindle, Let's Golf 2, Madden NFL 12, NFL Mobile, Slacker for entertainment, Smart Actions and MOTOACTV.
