Motorola Solutions, Verizon Wireless Sign LTE Deal
Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) announced an alliance with Verizon Wireless that would bring the advantages of Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technology to public safety customers across the United States.
Public safety agencies may benefit from economies of scale and optimized network design that can be customized for their requirements, Verizon Wireless said in a statement.
The deal allows agencies to supplement their mission critical core platforms with the rich media services, and the increased capacity and coverage of Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network.
The deal offers public safety agencies access to real-time management and control, enhanced nationwide roaming, and site sharing of existing mobile broadband sites for rapid deployment and economies of scale.
Verizon Wireless said the agencies can opt for the business model most suitable for supporting the deployment and management costs of their Public Safety LTE networks.
Meanwhile, the solution leverages Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network. Verizon said its 4G LTE network provides data speeds up to 10 times faster than its 3G network - 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink in real world, fully-loaded network environments.
Verizon Wireless' advanced wireless networks will complement Motorola's private network solution to help public safety agencies run their operations more efficiently and effectively, Mike Lanman, president, enterprise and government markets, Verizon Wireless said in a statement.
