Motorola, Verizon team up to launch TV device: report
Mobile phone group Motorola is teaming up with Verizon Wireless to develop a digital tablet device that would rival Apple's iPad, the Financial Times said on Wednesday.
The product will allow users to watch television on it and was expected to tie closely to Verizon's FiOS digital pay television service, the newspaper said, citing people briefed on the plans.
The device, which could launch as early as this autumn in the United States, will have a 10-inch screen and will operate on Google's Android software, the FT said. It will be built with two cameras and users will be able to share its wireless connection with nearby devices.
Unlike the iPad, Motorola's device will also support Adobe's Flash software that enables users to view popular video sites, the FT said.
Motorola, Verizon and Google could not immediately be reached for comment.
