Mourinho Urges Spurs To Sign Star Who Earns $170K A Week At Manchester United - Report

Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to land Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson at Tottenham at the upcoming summer transfer window.

Mourinho has urged Spurs chief Daniel Levy to sign the Manchester United shot-stopper, who is looking for a more regular first-team play, soccer outlet One Football reported. But International Business Times could not verify it independently.

The 23-year-old Henderson, who returned from a loan spell at Sheffield United last August, has been frustrated at Old Trafford, being the club’s second-choice goalkeeper behind veteran David de Gea. He has made 12 first-team appearances for the Red Devils in the ongoing campaign, which includes only three Premier League matches.

Spurs captain Hugo Lloris, who is also the North London club’s goalkeeper, will be without a contract at the end of the 2020-21 season and has not signed an extension yet. With Lloris in the final year of his contract, Spurs are monitoring Henderson’s developments at Manchester United as Mourinho has been an admirer of the young gloveman, according to Sky Sports.

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness recently revealed that Mourinho had told him he believed Henderson "should have been in the (United) team a couple of years ago," Sky Sports' report further revealed.

Courtesy of his time at Old Trafford, Mourinho is aware of Henderson’s potential. If Henderson does fill in for Lloris at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he will directly break into the team’s starting XI and that is something the young goalkeeper is waiting to achieve, even if it means parting ways with his boyhood club.

It was earlier reported that other Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and West Ham were also interested in acquiring Henderson, who earns $170,000-a-week at Old Trafford, this summer.

However, Chelsea already have two goalkeepers fighting for the role of being the club’s first-choice. While new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that Edouard Mendy, who joined the Stamford Bridge side last summer, remains his top choice, the doors also have not been closed for Kepa.

While West Ham have a settled 'keeper' Lukasz Fabianski, his current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
