  • Mark Magsayo makes weight and is ready for Rigoberto Hermosillo
  • Magsayo is looking to put on a good show for boxing fans
  • Magsayo hopes to pull off a big win in his debut fight for MP Promotions

After a bit of bump, Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo will finally make his long-awaited return to the ring. Though the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the usual course of boxing events, all that matters to the 25-year-old Filipino is boxing once more and making his countrymen proud.

Magsayo will face replacement opponent Rigoberto Hermosillo in the main event of the FS1 PBC Fight Night card on Saturday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The Magsayo vs. Hermosillo clash is set for 10 rounds

Both fighters made weight for the event, with Magsayo checking in at 127 pounds while Hermosillo came in at 126.6 pounds, Boxingscene reported.

Hermosillo was chosen to take the place of Jose Haro, who backed out and opted to retire at the request of his family.

Though Magsayo appears to have the advantage since he has long prepared for his first fight under MP Promotions, he is not taking any chances. Magsayo feels that they are both on even ground since both are training. However, in an exclusive interview, he did not hide the fact that he is aching to get the win, having gone nearly a year without a fight.

Magsayo also said that he has already seen how Hermosillo fights. He noticed that the 28-year-old boxer out of Guadalajara, Jalisco in Mexico loves to go inside.

Legendary trainer Freddie Roach has been overseeing his preparations, and Magsayo is confident about putting on a good show.

MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons believes that despite being a last-minute replacement, Hermosillo will put Magsayo to the test. He brands Magsayo’s opponent as a tough Mexican and said his record is deceiving.

Hermosillo owns a record of 11-2-1, eight coming from knockout. Magsayo has fought 20 times, winning 14 of them via knockout with no defeat.

One person who admits that she has been having sleepless nights is Magsayo’s wife, Frances. She is nervous about the fight but revealed that her husband told her that he will do his best. Before the weigh-in, she bared that Magsayo was a bit relieved after reaching the set weight, but his diet still needs to be followed.
