  • Nico Ali Walsh thinks his late grandfather will not like Floyd Mayweather’s claim about being the greatest of all time
  • Ali Walsh has no problem with internet personalities doing boxing
  • The 21-year-old wants to continue Muhammad Ali’s legacy

A boxing prospect with a legacy-filled name weighed in on the greatest of all time debate.

Ever since boxing fans can remember, Mayweather has been rubbing his unbeaten record into everyone’s face, self-proclaiming that he is “the best ever.”

Though “Money” sure presents a strong case to be hailed as boxing’s “GOAT,” Ali is still revered by many as the greatest to ever step inside the ring. But for Mayweather, the late boxing icon is just “No. 5” in his list.

Commenting on the subject, Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh, who is also carving his own path in the sport, reckoned that it is hard to imagine how his grandfather would’ve reacted to Mayweather’s bold claim.

However, he is certain Ali will not be too happy about it.

“Seems incredibly low,” Ali Walsh told Sportbible of Mayweather putting Muhammad at No. 5 on his “GOAT” list. “I've always gotten the vibe that maybe Mayweather doesn't like him as much as other fighters do, but, it's okay, each to their own.”

"Everyone refers to my grandfather as the 'greatest' and Floyd refers to himself as 'TBE' (The Best Ever),” he continued. “I feel like anybody in that position would get a little bit upset if everyone's calling someone else the greatest and you think you're the greatest."

Mayweather has not fought professionally for years but has been taking part in exhibition matches in recent times.

The 43-year-old’s latest act was against YouTube star-turned-boxer Logan Paul.

For Ali Walsh, there’s nothing to “hate” about exhibition matches and the emergence of non-boxers in the sport. In fact, he even stressed that his grandfather himself also did exhibitions back then.

"I don't hate on them; a lot of fighters hate on them," the 21-year-old explained. "I definitely am not one of those guys. Everyone has a right to make money their own way. If Mayweather wants to do exhibitions and fight YouTubers then he can do that and make money for himself. And I don't think you can knock anybody for wanting to make money.”

"My grandfather [Ali] was a part of exhibitions as well, some crazy match-ups so it's not the first time we're seeing it. But it's definitely the first time that it's getting his much publicity and getting this much revenue."

Ali Walsh has vowed to “continue” his grandfather’s legacy and has already scored a stunning knockout win in his pro debut last Saturday against Jordan Weeks.
