MWC 2022: Oppo Unveils New High-Performance Smartphones
KEY POINTS
- The Find X5 series features advanced imaging capabilities
- MariSilicon X NPU allows for excellent picture quality even in low-light conditions
- These phones are great for photographers and videographers
A new series of smartphones will be released globally with Oppo’s announcement of the launch of the Find X5 line at MWC 2022 in Barcelona.
Oppo is known for its reliable smartphones, and the company intends to go all-in this year by releasing the Find X5 and Find X5 Pro models. Apart from improved internal and external quality, these new phones have something else that might catch the eye of smartphone enthusiasts.
Here’s a closer look at what makes this new lineup special.
The MariSilicon X NPU and Cameras
One of the key features of the Find X5 line is Oppo’s own MariSilicon X NPU (or neural processing unit), which is designed to improve imaging performance through the use of artificial intelligence. This allows the Find X5 phones to capture 4K videos in low-light environments. Users will be able to take photos and videos in the dark without over-exposing the scene, making these phones great choices for photography and videography.
The technology behind the NPU is impressive. It allows users to take perfectly clear photos in situations that would normally be extremely difficult to get decent pictures in like brightly-lit backgrounds and dark rooms.
The phones also come equipped with two 50MP wide-angle cameras and a 13MP telephoto camera at the back, all of which are developed by Oppo and Hasselblad for high-quality image capture. This collaboration resulted in the Find X5 series gaining superior color calibration over older phone models.
Improvements over standard cameras can be immediately felt upon taking a snap with the Find X5. Colors are much clearer and pop out more noticeably, while the simulated leaf shutter sound gives an odd sense of satisfaction for every picture taken.
Oppo also implemented the XPan feature, which gives users even more options when taking pictures in the form of special filters and camera effects.
Hardware Overview
The Find X5 and Find X5 Pro are somewhat identical in terms of their hardware. Both come with the MariSilicon X NPU as well as Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, though the Find X5 Pro’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 may perform better than its counterpart’s Snapdragon 888 model.
Storage-wise, both phones are capped at a maximum of 256GB of space, but the X5 Pro has the benefit of having 12GB of RAM compared to the Find X5’s 8GB. This means that the Pro version will be able to handle heavier loads and more demanding apps, but the base X5 should be able to stand on its own just fine.
The Find X5 Pro also has a slightly larger battery at 5,000mAh compared to the base version’s 4,800mAh. Both are more than enough for about a dozen hours’ worth of use in a single charge, though Oppo’s fast-charging SuperVOOC tech means users will have very little downtime even when they do find their phones out of battery.
Lastly, the Find X5 series is housed in a ceramic shell that’s more resistant to heat and damage.
The Verdict
The enhanced imaging capabilities of the Find X5 series make these phones great for photographers and vloggers. Despite the heavy emphasis on the improved cameras, these phones are still great for everyday use as well thanks to the strong performance of their internal parts. For this, we’ve decided to give the Oppo Find X5 series our Best of MWC 2022 award.
