NAACP Image Awards: 'Just Mercy' Wins Big, Lizzo Named Entertainer Of The Year

The winners of the 51st National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards were announced on Sunday and it was Jamie Foxx’s latest film “Just Mercy” and the comedy series “Black-ish” that dominated the ceremony with multiple wins.
According to CNN, the comedy series starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross won six trophies at the star-studded event, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Anderson and Ellis Ross won in the Leading Roles category while Marsai Martin and Deon Cole won the Supporting accolades.
Martin turned out to be the biggest winner of the night, taking four trophies on the same night. Two of her trophies came for “Black-ish” while the other two for the movie “Little,” including Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture.
Meanwhile, “Just Mercy” dominated the movie categories with four impressive victories, including Outstanding Motion Picture. Michael B. Jordan received the Outstanding Lead Actor trophy and Foxx took home the Outstanding Supporting Actor award.
The Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’O won the Best Actress trophy for her extraordinary work in the movie “Us.” On the other hand, “Dolemite Is My Name” received the award in the Outstanding Independent Motion Picture category.
Besides “Black-ish,” the Television categories saw Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” raking in multiple awards. The limited series won the Outstanding Television Movie, Limited Series award while Jharrell Jerome and Niecy Nash received the acting awards for the series.
Lizzo, the Grammy-winning artist, was named Entertainer of the Year by the organization while Beyonce went home with five awards.
