After an explosive opening season, The CW's latest teen mystery "Nancy Drew" is set to return with Season 2 next year. The first trailer of the new season teases a spooky new case for the teenage detective.
Days before the premiere of the spin-off series "The Hardy Boys," The CW dropped the first trailer for the forthcoming second season of "Nancy Drew," the mystery thriller adapted from the popular children's book series. Kennedy McMann, portraying the titular role, is returning with her Drew Crew to solve another mystery that will see terrifying ghosts coming alive in Horseshoe Bay, Maine. Nancy will be joined by a group of friends including George Fan (Leah Lewis), Bess Marvin (Maddison Jaizani), Ned "Nick" Nickerson (Tunji Kasim) and Ace (Alex Saxon).
Still reeling from the consequences of last season's events, the Drew Crew will witness the Agleaca's wrath. Fans could recall that Season 1 finale ended with the ghost of the Aglaeca, a sea spirit that Nancy and her friends called upon, sending visions of their death to George, Nick, Bess, Ace and Nancy. As the show returns for its sophomore year, the team of young detectives is expected to deal with the consequences of their doing.
"Everybody, stay calm. It cannot find us if we're not afraid," Nancy can be heard saying to her friends in the clip teasing the eerie events in the upcoming season.
"There is a lot more to come in the premiere of season 2," showrunner Noga Landau told Entertainment Weekly. "[The] very cool Aglaeca-related [season 1] ending makes us really up the stakes for what's about to happen as a consequence of them not paying the toll."
In its pilot season, Nancy's crew helped her solve the mystery behind the murder of Lucy Sable (Stephanie Van Dyck), whose ghost had haunted her throughout the season. The events unraveled some personal history as well, revealing that Nancy is Lucy's child with Ryan Hudson (Riley Smith). The revelation has left Nancy distraught and she is yet to confront the reality of her parentage.
At the same time, she was engrossed in solving Owen's murder case, assuming he had been killed by the Agleaca. Later, it was discovered that Owen's killer was actually his own uncle Joshua. However, Nancy is yet to pay the Aglaeca's debt and this has made the spirit angry as she begins to unleash her rage on them all.
"Nancy Drew" Season 2 premieres Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 on The CW.
