Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, pleaded guilty Tuesday in California to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was sentenced to five days in jail but will only serve eight hours of community service.

Paul Pelosi initially pleaded not guilty. He will remain on probation for three years and was ordered to pay upwards of $1,700 in fines.

He already served two days of his sentence after his arrest. Two days were also taken off the sentence for good conduct following the accident. His sentence for the fifth day involves doing community service.

The 82-year-old was arrested on May 28 after his 2021 Porsche was hit by a 2014 Jeep in Napa, California. Paul Pelosi blew a .082 and the legal limit for California is .08.

The vehicles "sustained major collision damage," according to a criminal complaint. Neither Paul Pelosi nor the other driver was seriously injured.

The New York Times reported in June that Paul Pelosi had had cataract surgery in the days preceding the accident. It's unclear if his vision impaired his driving.

Paul Pelosi founded and runs San Francisco-based venture capital firm Financial Leasing Services. He has five children with Nancy Pelosi. The couple married in 1963.
