Naomie Harris, Keira Knightley Join Independent Standards Authority To Stop Harassment In Film Industry
Actresses Keira Knightley and Naomie Harris have joined the Independent Standards Authority (ISA) to stop harassment and bullying in the U.K. movie and television industry.
Knightley opened up about her collaboration with the organization, noting "for anyone to fulfill their creative potential, there cannot be fear or disrespect of any kind. We are all entitled to work in safe, respectful spaces where dignity for all is upheld," Deadline reported.
The 37-year-old actress praised the organization, and said, "I believe the ISA is an important step in helping to achieve this."
Harris, on the other hand, noted "no one should go to work fearful of harassment, bullying and abuse. For anyone to have their voice and reach their full potential, where we work must be safe and respectful" before praising the organization.
Heather Rabbatts, who serves as U.K. Time’s Up Chair, called it a "historic moment" for the TV and movie industry to have such an organization that focuses on providing "a just process for complainants and for those accused, to drive accountability and integrity."
Rabbatts noted this industry was "dominated by freelancers with little or zero employment protection," and as a result, they might continue to "suffer in silence."
U.K. Time’s Up joined hands with British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA) and British Film Institute in 2017 to create guidelines against harassment and bullying in the entertainment industry.
On the work front, Knightley has worked in several popular movies including "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest." She was recently seen in movies like "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms," "Official Secrets," "Berlin, I Love You," "Silent Night" and "Misbehavior."
The actress will be next seen in a thriller drama, "Boston Strangler," which is helmed by director Matt Ruskin. The movie will also star Carrie Coon, Rory Cochrane, David Dastmalchian, Robert John Burke, Charlie Thurston and Michael Malvesti.
Harris was recently seen in a TV series, "The Man Who Fell to Earth," which aired on Showtime and streamed on Paramount+ in March. She also worked in movies like "No Time to Die," "Swan Song" and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" released last year.
