KEY POINTS
- Eric Newman is already discussing "Narcos: Mexico" Season 3
- The plot could be about new cartels fighting to gain power
- Netflix hasn't yet renewed the show
There will be “chaos” in “Narcos: Mexico” Season 3 with the drug wars going out of control. In a recent interview, executive producer Eric Newman teased that they are already having a discussion of how things should move forward in the story and he has a clear idea about where things are headed.
The following article contains spoilers from “Narcos: Mexico” Season 2.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Newman said that the first season of the show was about consolidation of power, the second season was about the erosion of that power, and what comes next is “chaos.” The events in the next season will take this show closer to the present times.
Season 2 ended with Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna) behind bars. However, the drug lord warned that his arrest will only lead to anarchy as rival gangs will now go to war with each other in order to gain power and take his place.
Newman told Collider that both Miguel and DEA agent Walt Breslin (Scoot McNairy) have lost. The two characters will no longer be adversaries in “Narcos: Mexico” Season 3. The DEA lost the war on drugs and Miguel, who thought he could never be arrested because of his role in the economy, ended up behind bars.
What will the plot of the next season be about? It could be about the rise of Tijuana, Sinaloa, and Juarez cartels. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Luna said that he personally remembers the violence of the drug wars of the 80s, and added that they are telling a story that reminds people about how things became a “mess.”
Netflix hasn’t yet approved “Narcos: Mexico” Season 3. Newman, however, said that he has enough material to continue the story for a long time, and the show could end by connecting the story to what is happening in 2020 eventually.
