NASA’s Private Cottage Where Astronauts Relax before Shuttle Launch
As is NASA tradition, the Atlantis crew spent their final days relaxing in a private beach house near Cape Canaveral, Florida. This 49-year-old house is about a mile from the launch pad and has hosted generations of astronauts who have barbecued on the patio and spent final moments with their loved ones.
NASA purchased the unassuming house for $31,400 in 1963, and it has remained largely private and unknown even to many NASA employees, Motherboard reports.
Take a look at the quite beach cottage where astronauts relax before getting strapped inside the most complex vehicle ever built and propelled into an unknown realm.
