Nate Summerfield, Suspect In Murder Of Lynn Jackenheimer, Captured In Ohio Following Month-Long Manhunt

Nate Summerfield, the boyfriend of murdered Ashland, Ohio, resident Lynn Jackenheimer who is suspected of killing the 33-year-old, has been arrested by U.S. Marshals following a month-long search for the fugitive.

Summerfield, 27, of Ashland, was arrested Wednesday morning at around 9:30 a.m. at the Legacy Inn and Suites in Medina County, U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott told a news conference, according to WEWS. Summerfield had been staying at the hotel for one day, the station reported.

Authorities were able to discern Summerfield's whereabouts during a nationwide search for the fugitive. They tracked his car on Aug. 8 in Michigan, 10TV reported.

U.S. Marshals are trying to figure out whether Summerfield was being helped in his effort to evade authorities.

"We are going to follow up and put a lot of things together," U.S. Marshal Peter J. Elliott said, according to the station. "If anyone was harboring him, I want to be clear, we will be looking at federal charges."

Jackenheimer was found dead last month in North Carolina's Outer Banks area, where she was on vacation with Summerfield and her children. She had been missing for nearly a month.

Authorities fingered Summerfield as a suspect in Jackenheimer's murder and a nationwide manhunt was conducted to find the 33-year-old.

Summerfield returned to Ohio to drop off Jackenheimer's kids and allegedly confessed to his brother that he strangled the 27-year-old, with whom he had an on-again, off-again relationship.

"My brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend. He came back and said he strangled her, he dropped his kid off and left," Summerfield's brother, Jake, told a 911 dispatcher, according to WEWS.

Summerfield's capture brought a sigh of relief to Ashland Sheriff E. Wayne Risner, 10TV reported.

"I'm glad this is over, I'm glad we can take the posters down," said Sheriff E. Wayne Risner. "We will do whatever we can to bring justice for Lynn Jackenheimer."

Summerfield is expected to be extradited to North Carolina, where the crime is believed to be committed, where he will most likely face murder charges in Jackenheimer's death.
