National Bagel Day 2017: Deals, Freebies And Where To Go For Breakfast Food Holiday
A tasty holiday if there ever were one, Thursday is National Bagel.
The bagel, versatile, faintly sweet and chewy, is an incredibly popular choice for breakfast. "We can thank the Jewish population of Eastern Europe for the dense, chewy, doughy circles of wheat that have assimilated into our western diet about as easily as apple pie," writes the National Bagel Day website. "Topped with a schmear of cream cheese, peanut butter and just about any other sandwich filler you can think of, the bagel is especially popular in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom."
To honor the holiday, a number of bagel spots across the U.S. are planning special deals on the circular morning treats. Here's the quick details you should know if you're looking to score a bagel Thursday:
Einstein Bagel
"We're celebrating National Bagel Day on 2/9 by showing our #1 fans some fresh-baked love with a free bagel & shmear," wrote the bagel company with many locations. To get the deal, check out Einstein's website here to print a coupon. But note, the "free" bagel and shmear is free only with a purchase, so maybe plan on getting a coffee or juice as well.
Manhattan Bagel
Unlike Einstein, Manhattan Bagel is offering a free bagel, no purchase necessary. Check out your local shop's Facebook page to secure a coupon. You only have to show the coupon on your phone, so no need to print it out.
Knead Bagels
The Philadelphia bagel spot isn't running a deal, but for the politically minded in the left-leaning city, it is donating 10 percent of sales Thursday to the ACLU.
Thomas English Muffins and Bagels
Since Feb. 9 is also National Pizza Day, Thomas is selling limited time only pizza flavored bagels. It's also running a social media contest that could land you coupons on products. Check out the details about how to enter the contest here.
Leo's Bagels
The New York City spot is offering a free small coffee or tea with an purchase of a "sliced salmon sandwich."
