National Chocolate Day marks the time of year when the nation celebrates one of the most popular flavors around. Chocolate, which comes in a variety of flavors like unsweetened and sweet, is processed into forms of cocoa butter and cocoa solids.

Although chocolate is loaded with nutrients and dark chocolate contains high levels of antioxidants, some people still have to create excuses to justify their love and, sometimes, overindulgence of the sweet treat.

Thanks to the National Confectioners Association, which created the holiday, Oct. 28 has become the one day of the year when you don’t have to defend your sweet tooth. As an added bonus, several retailers will be offering various chocolate deals and freebies on Sunday in celebration of the delectable treat.
