Every year on Oct. 12, we observe National Farmers Day to honor and applaud thousands of hard-working farmers across the nation, whose efforts are vital for putting food on our tables.

Originally referred to as Old Farmer’s Day, Oct. 12 became National Farmers Day, which comes at the end of the traditional harvesting period.

Not only do farmers provide us with our daily food, but they also contribute to our economy in many ways. They create a stream of jobs in manufacturing, marketing and tourism, thereby keeping our community strong.

Farming is deeply embedded in our lives that a lot of people choose it as their second career. On National Farmers Day, let's meet a few celebrities who have opted to live on a farm, thereby closer to nature.

1. Chris Pratt. When the "Guardians of Galaxy" actor isn't filming, he can be seen on his ranch located in Washington State's San Juan Island. Pratt's passion for farming is evident on his Instagram page, which often features the latest developments on the ranch.

He hopes to have sheep grazing on his fields in the future. Ruffalo currently sits on the Board of Directors for FarmHearts.
