National Grab Some Nuts Day, which falls on Aug. 3, is observed annually to create general awareness about the benefits of consuming dry seeds. Nuts are one-seeded fruits that are quintessential parts of many dessert recipes, as well as eaten in salty dry roasted forms.

Nuts are generally classified into two categories--botanical and non-botanical, both of which contain a plethora of health benefits.

While every nut has a day individually dedicated to them in a year, the National Grab Some Nuts Day embraces them all. Almonds, Brazil nuts, cashew nuts, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios are various kinds of nuts available around the globe. Walnuts, contrary to what is generally thought, aren't nuts and peanuts are actually legumes.

Nuts are full of antioxidants: Nuts are loaded with polyphenols which can combat oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals -- unstable molecules whose presence in the body leads to cell damage and increase the risk of diseases.

Nuts aid in weight loss: Nuts are high in calories and a large part of them contains fat, which is a concentrated source of energy. Consuming nuts daily can alleviate appetite and reduce hunger.

Nuts help lower cholesterol and triglycerides: Nuts, especially pistachios, work to reduce cholesterol levels and alleviate the chances of diabetes due to their high content of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Nuts reduce inflammation: Inflammation means the body is building resistance against injury, bacteria, and other potentially harmful pathogens. However, enduring inflammation can pose risk to organs and lead to several diseases. Eating some nuts, including pistachios, brazil nuts, walnuts, and almonds can effectively reduce inflammation in the body.

Nuts are full of fiber: The body can't digest fiber but the bacteria that live in the colon can. Supplying the body with lots of fiber improves gut health and reduces the risk of diabetes and obesity.

Nuts reduce heart attack risk: Nuts help lower heart disease and stroke risk by tackling the rising cholesterol levels in the body.
