Even as popular among people of all age groups, junk food is a particularly notorious catalyst for a range of health issues. As part of the obesity-preventive campaigns, governments have made great efforts to reverse people's junk food addiction but ultra-processed foods are still on the popular side when compared to the low-calorie fares.

American culinary world embraced junk foods in the late 1800s, making packaged meals an instant sensation. The term "junk food," was coined by Michael F. Jacobson of the Center for Science in Public Interest, in the early 1950s.
