National Protein Day 2022: Health Benefits Of Consuming The Nutrient On Daily Basis
There are various ways in which protein can help our body, as it is present in every cell in the human body. However, a deficiency of this nutrient can lead to many health issues such as appetite loss, brittle nails or fatigue.
Data estimates that about 1 billion people, especially children in Central Asia and Africa, are protein deficient due to malnourishment resulting from socioeconomic inequalities. Experts opine that an adult should consume 0.36 grams per pound of body weight of protein, and twice that amount in case they perform intense physical activities, such as workouts, for better functioning of the body.
While protein supplements are far from being as beneficial as those present in whole foods, dietitians insist on eating both vegan and animal protein in advised proportions to keep many diseases at bay. The component is present in eggs, chicken, lean beef, tuna, turkey and fish. Dairy products such as cottage cheese, milk, nuts and Greek yogurt are also high in protein.
National Protein Day, which is observed on Feb. 27, is a way of raising awareness on the health benefits of the nutrient. To mark the occasion, here are some benefits of eating a protein-rich diet every day:
