National Women's Equality Day: 10 Inspiring Quotes On Anniversary Of 19th Amendment
National Women's Equality Day is marked annually on Aug. 26 to commemorate the adoption of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which gave women the right to vote.
Richard Nixon, the 37th U.S. president, officially declared the date as women's rights day in 1972. Since then, every U.S. president has issued a proclamation for the day.
In 2020, Donald Trump, in his proclamation, said: "Women are an essential part of the political, economic, and social fabric of our Nation. All American women — regardless of the role they play in the workplace or at home — contribute every day to the success of our great country. In addition to being homemakers, caregivers, mothers, and counselors, along with a host of other important roles, women also fill critical jobs in every sector of our economy, contributing to the financial security of their families and our Nation."
