Native New Yorker?s Finale Chicken Wing Eating Contest Announced
Native New Yorker's "Battle of the Bone", Finale Chicken Wing Eating Contest will be held from noon to 4 pm on Aug. 20. The sports-themed family restaurant franchise announced the finale of the 2011 contest, in which contestants attempt to top each other by eating the restaurant's famed chicken wings.
The first regional level contest was held in May at the Tempe location, with subsequent contests running every Wednesday at different Native New Yorker locations. Each weekly location winner will participate in the finals to be held in the Showroom at Talking Stick Resort Saturday.
The finale winner will drive home a Toyota Tundra and a portion of the proceeds go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International.
Contestants will be given 10 minutes and 60 seconds to eat as many wings as possible. The person with the highest weight eaten is the winner of the contest.
Sonya Thomas, nicknamed The Black Widow, a Korean-born American competitive eater from Alexandria, Virginia owns the current world record on eating the maximum number of chicken wings. On September 5, 2010 Thomas ate 181 chicken wings in 12 minutes setting a new world record during the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, New York.
