UPDATE: 2:54 p.m. EDT -- Authorities have discouraged civilians from taking part in rescue efforts due to heat and difficult terrain.
For those intent on searching for Naya Rivera on your own, 1. The lake is closed. 2. Temps are already in the 90’s. 3. The terrain around the lake is very steep and rugged. Our teams are well equipped and highly trained. We don’t want to have to rescue you.

Original story: On “Glee,” Naya Rivera and Heather Morris played lovers Santana and Brittany who eventually got married. In real life, Morris is searching for Rivera’s body after a drowning accident.
Morris, who has two sons with husband Taylor Hubbell, announced in a tweet on early Sunday morning that she’d be searching for Rivera on foot. Search teams have been working since Wednesday to find the actress.
Responding to a tweet from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department about the day’s search ending to resume at first light tomorrow, Morris declared she’d be joining their efforts.
“My name is Heather Morris, I'm Naya's close friend and co-worker, and I'm trying to conduct an on foot search and rescue mission along with a small group of friends at Lake Piru,” she wrote. “I understand your team is doing EVERYTHING in their power, but we are feeling helpless, powerless and want to help in any way.”
Morris noted that she’d also left a message with the Department of Rescue and Air and was planning to call again soon.

While most of the "Glee" cast has kept quiet while waiting for Rivera's body to be found, Morris has been vocal about praying for her friend and supporting the search.
Rivera, 33, is presumed dead after going missing during a boat rental on Wednesday. She and her son Josey, 4, were out on the California lake to swim. Josey, who was wearing a life jacket, was found alone on the boat later that afternoon. He said his mother never came back on the boat after swimming.
Search efforts have been ongoing, but Rivera has not been found. The search team has included over 80 people and utilized personnel on foot as well as helicopters, boats, ATV vehicles. Divers and sonar equipment are being used as well. Unfortunately, the murky water makes the search difficult.
The Sheriff’s Department shared a video to show the low visibility of the water on Friday.

As previously reported, authorities have said there is a possibility that the actress may never be found.
Rivera and Morris both found fame on “Glee,” where they started as supporting players but quickly became fan favorites. They starred on the Fox musical comedy from 2009 to 2015.
