'NBA 2K20' MyCareer Story: Player Starts In College, Demo Download Available On Wednesday
Aside from showcasing most – if not all – of the best and brightest names in the game of basketball, the NBA 2K franchise is also known for inviting Hollywood personalities into the mix. It's a crossover that fans like to see: NBA stars having cameo appearances on blockbuster hits and A-grade actors taking a timeout to contribute their talents to make the title even better.
Among others, Creed star Michael B. Jordan was featured on NBA 2K17 as Justice Young, a second-round draft pick in the game's MyCareer storyline. Jordan, who also played Erik “Killmonger” Stevens in the 2018 superhero hit, Black Panther, was joined by actor/comedian Hannibal Buress as Ice the Barber and Veep's Matt Walsh as coach Hemsley Adson.
Avengers' Anthony Mackie (Falcon, aka Sam Wilson) and Rob Huebel of Bob's Burgers also voiced some of the characters on NBA 2K19's MyCareer campaign.
This year's highly anticipated NBA 2K20 will be no exception as it will once again feature an “insane cast list".
The game's latest trailer, which debuted at Microsoft's Inside Xbox gaming conference in Cologne, Germany Monday, treated fans on what they could expect when the game come September 6. The spotlight is, of course, on MyCareer and its star-studded cast.
Leading the pack are Idris Elba (Thor franchise, Pacific Rim) as a basketball coach; Rosairo Dawson (He Got Game, Men in Black II) as the “player's character adviser,” and Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) as an agent.
They will be joined by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Scottie Pippen, Ernie Hudson, Jaleel White and Lamorne Morris. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will also be featured and will have a piece of the spotlight, well as Maverick Carter.
James will also appear in the live-action sports comedy film, Space Jam 2. It is scheduled to be released in 2021.
Polygon pointed out that SpringHill Entertainment, a media production outfit James and Carter established in 2015, is working with NBA 2K20 developer Visual Concepts, particularly the MyCareer mode.
It added that the demo of the game will go live on Wednesday, August 21, at 3:01 AM EDT. It will allow players to create their own character “and get a head start” on MyCareer. Their progress will then be carried over when NBA 2K20 will be officially released on Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6.
