NBA All-Star: Durant Pinpoints Moment Team LeBron 'Took Off' Against Team Giannis
Team LeBron won the 2019 NBA All-Star after coming from as many as 18 points down to beat Team Giannis 178-164 on Sunday night in Charlotte. Kevin Durant was the top scorer for LeBron James’ team, with 31 points and six rebounds.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s team came out firing in the first quarter, outscoring their opponents 53 to 37, but they were outscored in the next three quarters. The big change, however, came in the third quarter when Team LeBron went on a 33-13 run to take the lead for the first time since the beginning of the game.
There was no looking back after that and they continued their tremendous run in the fourth quarter as Team Giannis looked to have run out of fuel in terms of their shooting ability. Stephen Curry, arguably the greatest shooter in NBA at the moment, went 4 for 16 in the final two quarters.
There were plenty of moves for the highlight reel during the course of the game with the Giannis and Curry alley-oop in the first quarter following a fast break bounce pass from the Golden State Warriors point guard. The 2019 NBA All-Star set the three-point record after the two teams combined for a total of 62 three-pointers.
With 31 points, Durant took home the 2019 NBA All-Star MVP award, the second time the Warriors small forward’s won the award after bagging it first in 2012. The former Oklahoma City Thunder forward continues to show why he is going to be the most in-demand player when he enters free agency in the summer.
Durant credited Team LeBron’s bench – Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal – for getting them going after Team Giannis looked to be running them off the court with their shooting. The Warriors star believes they just started making shots after struggling in the initial part of the game.
“We just started making shots. Bradley Beal, Klay Thompson and the second group got us going and we took off from there,” Durant said after being awarded the MVP trophy. He also revealed it was great to share the court with the greatest the NBA has to offer while thanking Charlotte for the hospitality over the weekend.
The players will now get three days off before the regular NBA season gets underway again Thursday, with two blockbuster clashes lined up. The Boston Celtics take on the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers play the Houston Rockets.
