KEY POINTS

  • Carsen Edwards is considered as a three-point specialist for the Boston Celtics
  • The Celtics haven't utilized Edwards much in the past season
  • It's speculated that Edwards may not be part of the Celtics' long-term plan

The Boston Celtics are among the more highly followed teams in the league with their rich history and consistent performance in the Eastern Conference. While they remain as favorites, one of their promising talents Carsen Edwards is reportedly not a certainty in their roster.

The following and hype for Edwards may have been immense but he slipped to the second round in the most recent NBA draft. The shooter out of the Purdue basketball program has constantly proven to the world that he is a tremendous three-point specialist.

Throughout his college career, he’s shown time and time again that he’s one of the best shooters in his class. The five-foot-eleven guard was selected as the 33rd overall pick and has struggled to fit in consistent minutes with the Celtics.

The former second-team All-American has displayed before that he is capable to fill up the stat sheet. During Boston’s preseason matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Edwards knocked down eight three-pointers for 26 points. While he hasn’t been the main focus of the offense, he’s seen as someone who has the potential to contribute to any squad.

Per Hardwood Houdini, this streaky shooting may help at times but is not the Celtics’ main priority. The Celtics are currently one of the best teams in the East, boasting a 43-21 record, good enough for third place. This high seeded squad is aiming to win the championship where veteran players are expected to lead rather than ball-dominant rookies.

Players such as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have stepped up as among the main forces for the Green and White. Couple their exponential growth with seasoned All-Star Kemba Walker, the Celtics have their eyes set in competing for a deep playoff run.

Given the pace that the league plays in now, having Edward’s sharpshooting may provide an asset to any other team. The consistency beyond the arc is pivotal in today’s era and Edwards has the ability to provide that.

It will be interesting to see how the NBA continues in the near future and if fan favorites such as Edwards eventually suit up for considerable minutes.
