With just two days into the 2019-20 season of the National Basketball League (NBA), the league already has witnessed what could be the strangest injury of the edition.

Boston Celtics' guard Marcus Smart reportedly strained his windpipe when he got hit in the throat during his side's 107-93 loss to Philadelphia 76ers in their season opener.

"Marcus Smart said he strained his windpipe when he got hit in the throat. His voice sounds crazy right now," Celtics' reporter for The Athletic tweeted after Wednesday's NBA fixture.

Smart, who against Philadelphia finished with his usual series of four points, four rebounds and eight assists, is known to be an emotional and vocal player in the NBA. However, with the strange injury to his throat, he will have to cut down on that for the next few days.

Having bizarre injuries is not a new experience for the Celtics key player who had injured himself in a peculiar manner a couple of seasons ago. During a road trip to Los Angeles, an aggressive Smart had punched a glass frame. He then needed a shard of glass removed from the hand and that meant, he was forced out of the side for a few days, especially when the team needed him for the crucial matches.

It was an embarrassing thing to do for a senior player, who later on had apologized for his actions.
After two days, since the start of the 2019-20 season, Philadelphia are on the top of the Eastern Conference's points table, while Celtics are right at the bottom.

Even though Celtics lost on Wednesday, the team boss has insisted that his side's performance was not as disappointing as many have been claiming it to be.

"I just told the guys. I thought we did a lot of good things. I’m a lot more encouraged than discouraged," Celtics' head coach Brad Stevens told NBA after the match.

In addition to that, the overall cues and statistics also were evidence of the fact that the Celtics produced a promising start to the season. It was just that they chose the defensive approach against Philadelphia, a side that is considered to be favorites in East. That cost Celtics the result in the end.
