NBA Draft Rumors: Anthony Edwards Wants Minnesota Timberwolves To Pick Him
KEY POINTS
- Edwards is not scared of playing in the cold Minnesota climate
- Edwards wants to be the top pick of the 2020 NBA Draft
- Warriors loom as next best destination for Edwards
The Minnesota Timberwolves are already on the clock and have to make a decision soon.
LaMelo Ball has been singled out as their likely target although Anthony Edwards remains an option. With about a week left before the 2020 NBA Draft happens, the 19-year-old from Atlanta says he wants to play for the T-Wolves and is not scared of the cold climate over there.
Initially, Edwards loomed as the top choice for the 2020 NBA Draft class. But somewhere along the way, the attention shifted to Ball.
Part of that is because the younger brother of Lonzo Ball is known to be an offensive threat, something that other clubs have taken note of. Other teams interested in Ball include the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks.
Regardless, Edwards would be a talent too good to pass up. Based on recent takes, there is a chance that the former Georgia Bulldog could slide down to the third spot and into the waiting arms of the Charlotte Hornets.
This is with the assumption that the Timberwolves take in Ball as the top pick of this year’s class and the Golden State Warriors end up picking James Wiseman.
Edwards told The Undefeated that he wants to be selected at No. 1 by the T-Wolves, per Marc J. Spears.
"I'm not going to play basketball in the snow. So, I'm not worried about it," Edwards said.
True enough, Edwards could be a wise choice for Minnesota. He is seen as someone who offers something better on both ends of the court and has the numbers to back up that claim.
With the Bulldogs, Edwards averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 40.2 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line.
If the T-Wolves go as planned and pick Ball, the Warriors loom as the next best landing spot for the 6-foot-5 guard.
Though Wiseman fits the Dubs' needs, snubbing a talent like Edwards is something that the Warriors are pondering right now.
With Minnesota, Edwards could be an ideal fit for the cast consists of Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell.
Though he could be perfect for the Dubs, there is a chance he could be traded somewhere along the way with the Warriors’ backcourt still loaded with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
