As expected, The Flash heard all the voices that surround the 2020 NBA Slam Dunk Contest that saw former Miami Heat teammate Derrick Jones, Jr. winning the contest against Aaron Gordon of the Orlando Magic.
Recently-retired NBA star Dwyane Wade had an interview by Complex Sports posted on social media, reminding people of a fact that happened during the judging of the dunk fest.
“It took nine rounds. I wasn’t the only one who gave him a nine, let’s talk about that. It was three people who gave him a nine,” said the Miami legend. The 38-year old also lashed out on people who talked about such thing and just urged everybody to enjoy the dunk contest.
“Aaron Gordon not gonna lose any sleep by now winning the dunk contest. He’s one of our better NBA players, one of the young stars in this league,” said the 13-time All-Star. “At the end of the day, as judges, we had to come out with a winner,” Wade added. ‘It was unfortunate but we had to.”
D-Wade was one of the judges along with WNBA star Candace Parker, Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen, rapper Common, and actor Chadwick Boseman. Boseman and Pippen joined Wade in giving the 24-year old Orlando highflyer nine points.
Jones, Jr. performed a left-handed windmill just a foot inside the free-throw line and got 48 points from the panel – nine points coming from Parker and Common.
Gordon, on the other hand, called out Boston Celtics rookie Tacko Fall to the delight of everybody. The 7-foot-5 fan favorite stood at the restricted area near the rim before Gordon jumped over him.
But the dunk fell one-point short, giving the win to Jones, Jr. The building was stunned, including Tacko himself, Orlando teammate Markelle Fultz, Dwight Howard, and Giannis Antetokounmpo before the arena sounded nothing but boos.
