NBA: Former Cavaliers Bruiser Welcomes Idea Of Potential Return To Dub City

Anderson Varejao may be at the crossroads of his career at 36. However, the Brazilian big man is not totally closing the door on a potential NBA return. In fact, he would not mind rejoining the last team he played for back during the 2016-17 season - the Golden State Warriors.

Injuries hounded the one-time NBA champion, a reason why he hardly saw minutes for the Dubs. In his last season with Golden State, Varejao averaged 1.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 6.6 minutes of action. He would waived before the trade deadline. Despite that, he was still given an NBA ring by the Warriors that year for his role in the 2016-17 season.

Since then, Varejao has been playing in Brazil for Flamengo. He signed with the ballclub in January 2018 and averaged of 10.4 points and 6.7 rebounds in 44 games last season.

The 30th overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft played for Brazil in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. He scored 14 points in that loss to Team USA, 89-73. Though not among the main cogs, there is no doubt that Varejao can still be of help to teams who need to toughen up for the coming season. But the question here is how is his health holding up?

Varejao spoke to The Athletic, and the Brazilian revealed that he is 100 percent better and is a whole lot better compared to several years ago.

"I feel a lot better, 100 percent better than how it felt back then, because I got to play again. I got to play, and I got to be on the floor for more minutes and all of that. I’ve got more rhythm, and that’s why I am feeling the way I’m feeling right now," said Varejao.

Varejao had his best years with the Cleveland Cavaliers and benefitted from playing alongside LeBron James. A return to the Warriors' fold would be something, especially since the team could use a veteran banger. Aside from that, he can also mentor the young big men moving forward.

The Brazilian could be an alternative if the Warriors plan to add another big man. In a previous post, coach Steve Kerr said that he would be open to re-signing Andrew Bogut somewhere next NBA season if he was interested. If things don't pan out, the Dubs may want to consider the 6-foot-11 cager.
