Dennis Rodman was saddened over the death of Kobe Bryant as he had nothing but words of respect for the basketball great. But as the countless tributes began to outpour, the former Detroit Pistons Bad Boy singled out the worldwide uproar to make Bryant the new logo of the NBA as one thing he is not in favor of.
Calling it “a tough one,” Rodman told TMZ Sports that while Bryant could make an ideal logo, he still believes Jerry West should stay as the right guy for it.
"Kobe has the charisma for the signature of a logo, but I'm holding my vote on that one,” Rodman told a reporter outside the Staples Center on Tuesday. "I'm a good friend of Jerry West. He's been a mentor of mine for a long, long time. (It should) stay the way it is."
Much has been discussed about this clamor that it stirred various opinions from fans and even known personalities.
Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Nick Moghtader, and Kevin Hart are just some of the celebrities who joined the petition to make Bryant the new face of the league’s trademark.
Paul Pierce, Bryant’s old rival, also spoke with TMZ Sports last week and was asked of his standpoint on the proposition. There he said, "I'm with that too,” after mentioning that the league should "retire (Bryant's) number in every arena."
“(Bryant) had such an impact in our game (and) on this generation that you have to make his presence felt -- and continuously felt – forever,” the Boston Celtics legend added.
Rodman may be on the other side of the spectrum, but his personal views would not dampen his love and respect for Bryant whom he labels as “mini-Michael Jordan”.
"I love you, Kobe," Rodman said. "Rest in peace, baby. Love and respect, baby."
