NBA: Former Golden State Warrior Shares Update On We Believe Documentary
KEY POINTS
- The Golden State Warriors We Believe team is one of the greatest stories in the NBA
- The league-leading Dallas Mavericks lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2007 postseason
- Matt Barnes shared an update on the planned documentary of the underdog team
Before the Golden State Warriors were dominating the NBA with five straight trips to the finals, they were considered an underdog team. Their 2007 playoff run remains to be one of the more iconic stories of the league and is reported to have a documentary soon.
A pivotal member of that team Matt Barnes gave an update on its development. The tough forward emphasized that it will have a slight delay due to the current landscape of the world. With racial issues and the global pandemic happening at the same time, production for the film will take a slight step back.
Per NBC Sports, Barnes said that they would have to wait for the situation to settle down a bit.
"Hopefully that'll get going once we find some sort of normalcy back in this country. So I'm hoping within the next few months we'll jump back on that project,” Barnes said.
“But myself and Baron [Davis], we're doing all kinds of political [things] right now. So that's kind of been put on the back-burner,” Barnes added.
Despite this, Barnes ensured that the final product would be something people will cherish. It will be a great opportunity for fans to look back at one of the biggest upsets in NBA history.
"I think it's gonna be fun. I think the fans are gonna enjoy it. I think the fans are gonna be amazed by what kind of team we really were on and off the court. Seeing the inside stuff and hearing about it,” Barnes said.
The 2007 season was one of the more dominant seasons for the Dallas Mavericks as the reigning MVP Dirk Nowitzki led them to a 67-15 record. The Mavericks entered the playoffs as the favorites to win the championship with the way they dominated the regular season.
The first round however did not go as expected as Dallas ran into the hungry and gritty We Believe Warriors team.
The story remains to be an inspiration to those who are facing a tough ordeal ahead of them. It will be interesting to see how the documentary develops in the coming months.
