There is no question that Metta World Peace is one of the more unique players to ever play in the NBA. Formerly known as Ron Artest, World Peace has recently revealed that he has changed his name once again.

The former NBA champion has had a storied career as a defensive player in the league. The six-foot-seven forward has achieved multiple accolades throughout his time in the league. One of World Peace’s most notable accomplishments other than his 2010 championship was his 2004 Defensive Player of the Year award.

During that time, World Peace was a defensive specialist but could also shoot when given the opportunity. He was a strong force inside the paint, as he had no fear of getting into contact with the league’s biggest players.

The former All-Star has also been heralded as a tough guy as he doesn’t back down from any fight. While his presence has brought a lot of energy to his teams, he has also been associated with multiple exchanges on the court.

He was infamously at the center of the Malice at the Palace where the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons’ on-court altercation led to a brawl to the stands. This was considered as one of the more disgraced moments in NBA history.

There have also been more captured moments of World Peace in the middle of immense physicality on the court such as scuffles and fights between players.

Despite his reputation, World Peace has also shown a much sweeter side. He was once called The Panda’s Friend during his stint in the Chinese Basketball Association with the Sichuan Blue Whales. The image of World Peace as an affectionate man is evident in his decision to change his name once again as he had his wife on the top of his head.

In a recent appearance on the Inside the Green Room with Danny Green, World Peace shared that he has once again changed his name.

"My name now is 'Metta [inaudible] Ford-Artest," he said, as reported by Silver Screen and Roll. "I actually took my wife's last and added it to mine,” he added.

The past few years have seen a transformation on World Peace’s character but has remained to be one of the more unique personalities in sports.
