KEY POINTS

  • The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the favorites to win the NBA championship this season
  • The Golden State Warriors are currently collecting assets to trade for their team
  • Rumor has it that the Warriors have a potential trade offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo that would be hard for the Bucks to turn down

The NBA is currently on hold but the trade speculation persists. One of the biggest rumors to tease fans has been reining MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo joining the Golden State Warriors.

Per NBC Sports, if Milwaukee fails to take home the NBA title, the Warriors are capable of putting an offer the Bucks will find hard to turn down. It involves the Warriors shipping former number one pick Andrew Wiggins, a 2020 first-round pick, Minnesota’s 2021 first-round pick and a 2022 first-rounder.

Three first-round picks including the versatile forward in Wiggins is a big deal to ponder. Considering that two of the three picks are lottery selections mean it could tremendously shape a franchise in years to come.

This would, however, all depend on the performance of the Bucks in the playoffs. There is no question that they are one of the favorites to win the title this year. Boasting a 53-12 record, Milwaukee is the only team to have reached 50 wins before the coronavirus suspension.

All of Milwaukee's success has been possible with the dominant performance of Antetokoumpo. The Greek Freak is on pace to win his second MVP if the Bucks are able to sustain their momentum. Failing to win the title this year could increase the chance of the Bucks front office considering a trade of this magnitude.

It’s a big trade-off giving up a once in a lifetime talent such as Antetokounmpo but the security of multiple first-round picks is tempting. In addition to this, despite the criticism, Wiggins has also been a consistent scorer and is only 25 years old.

For the Warriors, this would entail having the splash brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson onboard with Antetokounmpo. While the long-range shooting has been the standout trait of Golden State, there’s no denying the game-changing factor Antetokounmpo brings to the team.

It has been a unique season for the last-place Warriors after winning five consecutive Western Conference championships. But as the team settles down, Golden State remains a threat to the league once their key players return from injury.

For now, the Bucks are prioritizing on finishing the season strong and hopefully with a championship once the COVID-19 suspension has been lifted.
