The Golden State Warriors have dominated the league in the past decade with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson leading the charge. This could have been a different scenario if a potential deal involving Chris Paul pushed through back in 2011.

The revelation came on Uninterrupted’s WRTS: After Party where the ten-time All-Star shared details of a history-altering trade not pushing through. It was Chris Paul’s decision that halted the trade from happening in the end.

With the blockbuster potential that it had, Paul admits that it was his choice to not push through because he spent the majority of his life on the East coast.

“I actually never wanted to come like out West,” Paul said.

It was a proposed deal to ship Curry and Thompson to the New Orleans Hornets for the services of Paul. At that time, Paul was in the spotlight of multiple trade speculation as the league infamously vetoed a deal that would have sent him to the LA Lakers.

“I could have went to that one team or that team, whatever. Everything happens for a reason,” Paul added.

It was interesting to note that Paul eventually was moved to Los Angeles as a member of the Clippers. That team blossomed into a powerhouse fan-favorite dubbed lob city.

While the Clippers were dominating the highlight reels, the Warriors led by the splash brothers were steadily climbing up the ranks.

The decade would feature classic bouts between Paul and the Warriors as Golden State and the Clippers matched up for a heated rivalry.

The Clippers would eventually be separated while the Warriors rose to the top of the league as a dynasty.

For all of the Warriors’ success in the past decade, they’ve stumbled this year with injuries and drastic roster changes. They’re now preparing for a rebuild and are aiming for a comeback next season with a healthy squad and fresh draft picks.

Paul, on the other hand, has been leading a valiant effort in Oklahoma as a dominant point guard for the young squad.

The image of Paul donning the colors of the Bay Area squad may as well be stocked up as one of a notable “what if” in sports. In addition to that, the idea of the splash brothers making waves in New Orleans would remain an alternate scenario to ponder in NBA’s history.
