The New York Knicks are keen to fill the final spot on their training camp roster and will hold a workout for former overall no. 2 pick Hasheem Thabeet. The 32-year-old center’s agent Jerry Dianis confirmed the upcoming workout.

Thabeet’s agent told SNY’s Ian Begley that his client will participate in a workout as the Knicks look to fill the 20th and final training camp roster slot. They did have Kris Wilkes signed on a two-way contract but a recent report suggested that he is unlikely to make the roster after missing the summer league games through an illness.

The veteran center has been participating in informal scrimmages with Knicks players while also having held two workouts for the Milwaukee Bucks. He last played in the in the 2013-14 season with Oklahoma City Thunder and then played the 2014-15 season with the Detroit Pistons’ G-League affiliate Grand Rapids Drive.

“Former No. 2 pick Hasheem Thabeet is scheduled to participate in workouts with the Knicks in Westchester again this week, agent Jerry Dianis told SNY. Thabeet participated in 5-on-5 scrimmages with NYK recently & has worked out for several other teams, including twice w/Milwaukee,” Begley wrote.

Thabeet has also turned out for the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Portland Trailblazers after being picked no.2 in the 2009 NBA Draft. The player’s agent admitted that the center is grateful for the opportunity the Knicks are offering him considering his last competitive season in the 2017-18 season with Japanese basketball team Yokohama B-Corsairs.

The SNY report claims that the center has expanded his range as evidenced after his workout with the Bucks earlier in the summer. Thabeet’s agent Dianis told SNY that the player made 57 of 100 three-pointers and 53 of 100 from beyond the arc during his subsequent workouts with the Milwaukee franchise.
